Wildfire at Tintwistle Moor – #UPDATE 12:00 hours Wednesday 22 July Firefighters and partner agencies remain on scene at Tintwistle Moor today, continuing work to contain the wildfire, tackle hotspots and respond to any flare-ups as they arise. As our response continues, we are reiterating calls for everyone to play their part and support us in bringing this incident to the safest and most effective conclusion possible. The A628 remains closed in both directions between the A57 Hollingworth and the A616 Flouch and is expected to remain closed until at least Monday 27 July, subject to operational progress. Please do not ignore road closure signs or attempt to access restricted areas. The closure is essential to allow emergency services and partner agencies to operate safely and effectively. We continue to urge people to stay away from affected moorland areas. Even a small action can have serious consequences in the current conditions, so please avoid using BBQs, campfires, or any naked flames in the countryside. We know many people may want to see the affected area for themselves, but unnecessary visits can hinder ongoing operations and place additional pressure on emergency resources. The best way to support our crews is to stay away and help reduce the risk of further fires. Smoke may continue to be visible across parts of the region depending on wind direction and weather conditions. Partner agencies are continuing to monitor the situation closely and work together to minimise the impact on local communities. Anyone affected by smoke should continue to follow public health advice and take appropriate precautions where necessary.
